Step 1: Prepare for the QuickBooks Upgrade 2024
Before you begin the upgrade process, take these preparatory steps:
- Backup Your Data: Create a backup of your company file. This is crucial in case anything goes wrong during the upgrade process.
- Check System Requirements: Ensure that your computer meets the system requirements for the new QuickBooks Desktop version. You can find these requirements on the QuickBooks website.
- Disable Antivirus and Firewall: Temporarily disable your antivirus and firewall software. This can prevent them from interfering with the installation process.
Step 2: Download the Latest Version
- Visit the https://proadvisorexpert.com website.
- Navigate to the “Downloads & Updates” section.
- Select the latest version of your QuickBooks product (Pro, Premier, or Enterprise).
- Click the “Download” button to start downloading the installer.
Step 3: Install the New Version
Once the installer is downloaded, follow these steps to install the latest version:
- Locate the downloaded installer file (usually found in your downloads folder) and double-click it to run the installer.
- Follow the on-screen instructions. You may be prompted to enter your license and product key during installation. Have this information ready.
- Choose the installation type. You can select “Express” for a standard installation or “Custom” to customize the installation location.
- Wait for the installation to complete. This may take some time, depending on your computer’s speed.
Step 4: Convert Your Company File
After installing the new version of QuickBooks Desktop, you may need to convert your company file to the new format. Here’s how:
- Open the new QuickBooks version.
- When prompted, select “Open or Restore an Existing Company.“
- Choose “Open a Company File” and click “Next.“
- Locate and select your company file (the one you backed up earlier) and click “Open.“
- Follow the on-screen instructions to convert your file to the new version. QuickBooks will make a backup of your old file before proceeding.
- Review your data to ensure that everything transferred correctly.
Step 5: Verify and Rebuild Your Data
To ensure the integrity of your company file after the upgrade, follow these steps:
- Go to “File” > “Utilities” > “Verify Data.” QuickBooks will check for any data issues. If any problems are found, you’ll be prompted to run the “Rebuild Data” utility.
- After running the “Verify” and “Rebuild” utilities, review the results and resolve any issues that may arise.
Step 6: Keep Your Software Updated
Congratulations! You’ve successfully upgraded your QuickBooks Desktop software. However, the process continues. To ensure that your software remains secure and up-to-date, make it a practice to check for updates regularly.
- Go to “Help” > “Update QuickBooks.“
- Select the “Update Now” tab and follow the on-screen instructions to download and install any available updates.
Upgrade your QuickBooks Desktop Subscription
Launching QuickBooks will show a notice if a new version is available. We make upgrading simple for you.
- When you’re ready, select Upgrade Now.
- Select the old version on my computer to keep your current QuickBooks. Then select Let’s go. The updated version of QuickBooks is downloaded, installed, and activated for you. Your company file(s) have been updated.
- When the Upgrade is done, select Open QuickBooks.
Note: The Upgrade may take some time. It depends on your internet speed and company file(s) size.
Upgrade QuickBooks Desktop without a Subscription
Don’t worry if you don’t see a prompt to update. It indicates that you bought QuickBooks once. With the simple upgrade tool, you may upgrade. Here’s how.
- Select Help, and then Upgrade QuickBooks.
- Then click Upgrade Now after choosing the version you wish to upgrade to.
- Your most recent copy of QuickBooks is yours to keep. Select the old version on my computer, then select Let’s Go.
The updated version of QuickBooks is downloaded, installed, and activated for you. It updates your company file(s).
